- How to write un-put-downable copy
How to write un-put-downable copy
Cannot - for the love of God - put it down
I posted this on my X profile yesterday.
Thought it would be a shame not to share it with you guys :)
======
Let's face it:
Most copy is boring as shit.
Take a look around – on the Internet & IRL – and you’ll spot boring, dogshit copy EVERYWHERE.
Stuff like:
“The best in the industry!
Buy now!” 🤡
Or worse…
Long-winded blocks of text that look more like a legal document than something that would provide VALUE to anyone's life.
The absolute LAST thing you’d wanna do is spend your precious time WORKING your way through it.
The problem?
Your target customers are BOMBARDED with this useless BS every single day.
It's a constant onslaught.
That's why it's more important than ever to:
Keep your reader HOOKED.
You need to make your copy un-put-downable.
Because if your copy is boring…
Good luck getting people to read it. And good luck getting people to buy.
It ain't gon’ happen.
So…
How do you make your copy INTERESTING to read?
How do you hypnotize your readers to ENJOY being sold to? (Better yet… THANK you for it!)
Well, my young Padawan, I’m glad you asked…
That's exactly what this email is about.
BUT —
Instead of overwhelming you with a bunch of complicated hacks and bullet points… I’m going to give you one ACTIONABLE framework you can use in all your long-form copy.
I call it:
The Singing Copy Framework.
This is – essentially – a writing style.
It’s a way to string together words and sentences to create a slippery slope.
You’ve seen me use it throughout this entire article.
Actually… I’m using it right now.
What is it?
It’s very simple:
You can make your copy sing by
intentionally varying sentence length.
Here’s what I mean:
A long sentence followed by a short sentence, followed by a long sentence – and so on.
Long sentence.
Short sentence.
Long sentence.
Short sentence.
You can switch it up too.
If you’re 100% certain that you’ve got your reader’s attention…
…You can string together TWO long sentences and swiftly “recover” their attention with a short sentence.
Like now.
This will happen intuitively once you’ve practiced enough.
I don’t even have to think about it.
It just flows.
(Except for now… because I’m talking about it haha 😵 ).
Here are some more detailed guidelines:
Use periods instead of commas
Use “...” whenever possible
Don’t force it – if the content doesn’t allow for it… don’t use this framework (it’ll come across as slightly… autistic).
Right…
That’s pretty much it.
Not a mindblowing concept.
But I promise… if you implement this in your copy… you’ll find it performing SO MUCH better.
Because copy that isn’t interesting to read…
Will not get read.
Simple as.
Talk soon,
Tim <3
