OH BOY…
HAVE I GOT A TREAT FOR YOU TODAY! 😈
So I just got done with a 2 hour writing session for a sales page I’m currently working on.
As I wrap up the session…
I open up my email inbox… and I’m treated with a DELIGHTED reply to my latest email which reads nothing but:
“Unsubsribe”
BOYYY IF YOU DON—
Listen here you little shit. 😤
This is NOT how email service providers work! If you have the urge to unsibscribe from my email list (which is totally fine btw, I don’t need value leeches on my list)…
You can press the “unsubscribe here” button WHICH IS LITERALLY IN EVERY ONE OF MY EMAILS.
Have you never done this?
Like… what the fuck?!
…
…
Anyway, I made sure to manually BAN this guy (or gal 🤷) from my list.
I’m not kidding when I say I don’t have room for people like this.
Y’know… one of the most important aspects of building a profitable email list is list quality. Aka: are the people on your list qualified to be customers?
My list could have been TWICE the size it is now… if I didn’t remove inactive (or dumb) subscribers on a weekly basis.
Why am I doing this?
Because numbers are misleading.
The higher my subscriber count, but the lower my list quality, the more emails will go unopened, reducing my sender reputation… making them LESS likely to be seen by QUALITY subscribers.
This is a case where it’s easier to optimize for observable metrics (those that can be tracked in numbers, like subscriber count) … but where it makes more sense to optimize for hidden metrics (those that can’t be measured in numbers, like list quality).
It’s not the only area in life where this is true.
Take grinding hard for money (observable metric) but sacrificing happiness (hidden metric).
Or optimizing for bodyweight (observable) over how you feel (hidden).
The numbers don’t tell the full story.
A split test in your business gives you a nice, organized set of numbers. But they don’t account for everything. WHO converted? What state of mind were they in?
Making decisions based solely on numbers could be DEVASTATING for your business.
Sometimes it’s better to say “screw it… I’m going with my gut.”
And that’ll wrap up today’s email.
Oh, and one last thing…
IF ANYONE WANTS TO OUT THEMSELVES AS A DOGSHIT SUBSCRIBER TO THE EVIL VILLAIN TIM SCHREIBER…
MU-HAHAHA 😈🤪
See ya,
Tim <3
