Do you remember Clash of Clans?
That mobile game everyone and their nan played back in 2018.
It was SUPER fun.
I must have spent 100+ hours building out my village.
Upgrading my Inferno Towers, Clan Castle, and X Bows while searching for hours to find the perfect village to raid and fight in Clan Wars.
Ahh… the good ol’ times.
But there was one feature that always fascinated me about Clash of Clans…
I remember this one time when a friend of mine – who had started playing the game MONTHS after me – suddenly catapulted past me.
While I was still stuck at Town Hall 10, my friend was already upgrading to level 11!
I was so PISSED!
And one day, I confronted him about it:
“How are you already at Town Hall level 11? Are you paying for gems or something??”
He was hesitant to tell me, but after a little nudge he reluctantly confessed:
“I bought $50 worth of gems…”
My first thought was:
“Where did this fucker get $50 from??” (we were broke teenagers, mind you)
My second thought was:
“This is SO unfair! I’m over here spending hours every day looting villages, doing raids, and waiting for my Clan Castle to finish upgrading…
…while HE just buys some gems and gets all that done for him?!”
In hindsight, I have to admit…
This was NOT unfair at all.
My friend just understood a principle that would take me YEARS to grasp and take advantage of:
Buying leverage.
The ONLY shortcut in business.
While I DO NOT recommend spending your hard-earned cashola on Clash of Clans, there are arenas in life that ARE highly worth investing in.
Such as business.
See, there are only 3 things you can do to get ahead in business:
Trade your time
Trade your energy
Trade your money
