Do you still sleep with a Teddy Bear? š§
Well, I do too...
I am completely and utterly convinced that any adult who DOESN'T sleep with a Teddy Bear in their bed is either:
Traumatized
Married
Iām telling you this because Iām lying next to mine right now (not ashamed at all).
It's Tuesday. (Thatās when Iām writing this)
It's been a long, LONG day at the lab.
(I study biomedical chemistry if you didn't know.)
And Iāve just belly-flopped onto my bed harder than that fat uncle you meet once a year at a pool party.
A little background:
Every Tuesday I basically get to play with poisonous, corrosive, and sometimes explosive chemicals.
Cool stuff.
But afterward, Iām always fucked.
Just like today. I have ZERO energy for anything. Replying to DMs at most.
Mind you⦠weāre in this lab for 9 hours straight.
Some days we don't even have time to drink water.
Kinda fucked.
But I wanted to write anyway today.
Even though Iām 2 nanometers away from calling it quits and spreading out in my bed to fall into a coma for 16 hours.
But why am I still writing?
Because I had an epiphany moment today.
And I just had to tell you about it.
So please, excuse my bad writing, but here's something to think about:
What does every hour of your ideal everyday life look like?
Well, it's probably not spent in the lab with the professor watching your every move because you tried to steal some hydrochloric acid once (I plead the 5th)ā¦
But there's a reason why I framed the question in this mildly autistic manner.
See, your life doesn't consist of only highlights.
In fact, most of life is boring as fuck.
It's just everyday business.
So why don't we look for ways to maximize THAT (our day-to-day experience) instead of always chasing after the next highlight?
I thought about this a lot recently.
I tried all sorts of things to optimize every aspect of my life.
But it stressed me out.
I realized how difficult it was to live my ādream life.ā
So what did I do?
I asked different questions.
(This is at the core of my life philosophy. Iām convinced that if you ask better questions, youāll live a better life.)
So instead of trying to āoptimizeā my days, I tried to make them just a little better.
But even this was too vague.
And that's when I had the epiphany. (It literally came to me while I had mercury(II)chloride on my fingers.)
Instead of thinking in daily incrementsā¦
I started thinking in hourly cycles.
Maybe it's just meā¦
But my brain needs this level of ultra-specificity.
So I thought about all of my 16 waking hours.
And step-by-step identified ONE thing that I could ADD or SUBTRACT from each hour to make it just 1% better.
I have a feeling that this will make me a lot happier.
And it can do the same for you.
If you're currently not living the life you want toā¦
Maybe you're stuck with a micromanaging wanker of a boss at a 9-5.
Maybe you're still in school and you feel like you're wasting your time there.
Or maybe youāre stressed out about your business.
āWill I make the same amount of money next month? Will I be able to retain client A? Will I sign prospect B? Will I even attract leads at all?!ā
All these things can prevent us from living a peaceful life. (And if you ask me, that's what matters most. Not status, money, impact, not even freedom - but peace).
But taking a moment (or an afternoon) to think about the tiny, 1% improvements that make everything a lot more enjoyable is a life hack.
A pretty damn important one.
Talk soon,
Tim <3
P.S. What are some things youāre gonna do to make your days just 1% better?
Tell me about them.
I want to get some inspiration too haha.
