Feeling stuck? Take a break.
I'm back with 10 unique marketing insights
FINALLY!!!
It's me again in your inbox – Tim freaking Schreiber (for the first time in 4-ish days).
The reason for my absence?
I took a big ol’ break.
Last week has been a hell of a rough ride for me.
I caught an illness
Which NUKED my motivation
And now I can't even WALK properly
(There's this weird soreness in my lower back which makes it hard for me to even sit upright – let alone walk. Which is also why I'm typing this out in my bed right now 😒).
Well, life be like that sometimes.
There’s beauty in the struggle. We wouldn't be able to enjoy the good times if not for the soul-suckingly shit times.
The lesson here?
Listen to your body fellas.
If it needs rest… don't try to push it even further by hitting a heavy leg workout or going for some interval runs. It ain't worth it.
But all this chaos did give me some time to reflect.
And I was able to extract some pretty cool insights about marketing that had been stuck in my mind for a while.
So this email will give you 10 marketing “insights” that… I thought… were pretty cool.
Let's kick it off.
==========
1. Positioning a highly overused buzzword — but few people understand what it actually means. Here's what good positioning is to me:
Effective positioning means understanding your ideal client’s situation better than anyone else so they trust you and then present your product as the “bridge” to their “higher self.”
2. Status is the best way to make money on social media. That's why everyone tells you to “flaunt your wins” – it elevates your perceived status and makes you more credible.
But there are more ways to build your status: Associate yourself with other high-status people, be the first/only one to do something, and spark controversy (ethically) to get talked about a lot.
3. If you can't describe your brand in 2 sentences… it's not clear enough. Confusion kills conversions – so make sure you have an “elevator pitch” ready at all times.
4. Writing more won't necessarily make you a better writer. In fact, if you keep on repeating the same mistakes over & over again… you’ll actually decrease the quality. The solution? Get regular feedback & read more.
5. Everyone was a copycat once. Finding “your unique style” requires you to experiment with different elements from other writers. You must be a student before you can be a master.
6. Feeling stuck? Take a break.
7. Marketing and dating are one and the same. Literally.
8. Feedback is EVERYTHING. Analyze your comments, ask your customers to fill out a survey, ask for any feedback you can get your hands on… and IMPLEMENT – you won't regret it.
9. The most common cause for a failed campaign? A lack of boldness. You can't be afraid to experiment in marketing. A boring message won't cut through. Follow proven systems but don’t be afraid to bend the rules.
10. Marketing is hard. It's more than a full-time job. Trying to squeeze it in next to all your other tasks is a surefire way to burnout and have a crippled business.
