7-figure marketer on how to become a better thinker

Writing = thinking.

So if you want to make more money as a writer … you must become a better thinker. Makes sense, right?

On that note:

Recently, I was on a call with a 7-figure marketer.

And he told me about a neat and very simple trick to train yourself to become a better thinker.

Okay…

On the call, we brainstormed some “copywriting angles” for a project I’m working on.

The session was fascinating.

What amazed me was his creativity.

He instantly formed connections between seemingly unrelated ideas and weaved them into a coherent argument.

It looked almost effortless.

I asked him how he’s able to think so clearly.

This is what he said:

“Well, for one … I’m significantly older than you. The older you get … the more experiences you can pull from. Over time … you build up a ‘database’ of ideas, experiences, feelings and facts that will pop into your head exactly when you need them.”

“So … you’re telling me all I can do is wait?” I ask.

“No,” he replies, “there’s more to it. See, just ‘having experiences’ isn’t enough. The best thinkers deliberately TRAIN their brains just like bodybuilders train their muscles.”

“Understood. But how?”

“It’s simple: You finish
EVERY project you start.” 

…he says with a smirk on his face. 

“Tell me Tim, how many times have you started writing an email … but discarded it because it felt ‘too difficult’?”

“Welp … guilty as charged,” I admit.

He continued:

“Some of my most profitable work happened after I felt completely stuck. You know … that moment when it feels PHYSICALLY painful to think.

Most people would have chickened out then and there.

But I sat with the discomfort.

Sometimes … it clicked. Other times, it felt like a wild goose chase. But it doesn’t matter. What does matter? It’s that you train your brain to use effortful thinking.

And the best way to do this? 

Push through the resistance and finish what you’ve started — even if it isn’t perfect.”

*Drops the mic*
