18 women. 3 men.

Funny but weird story:

So, as you might know, I study business psychology.

By the nature of my subject (psychology), the women’s quota is … umm … a bit higher than average.

18 women. 3 men.

Yep…

And lemme tell ya … I’ve never received more attraction from women in my life. It’s actually ridiculous.

And it’s not just me!

The other 2 fellas are experiencing the same phenomenon.

(Trust me, I’m going somewhere with this 😅)

So, being the nerd I am, I came up with a theory that explains this:

Men are scarce.

I study in an environment where men are much rarer than women. This is Cialdini’s principle of Scarcity.

It states:

We desire things which are scarce.

Let’s imagine I wasn’t studying psychology … but computer sciences. See … I actually did study computer sciences for 1 semester.

The male:female ratio?

About 10:1 💀

Do you think I’d get the same level of attraction?

Hell nah!

The women there have an ABUNDANCE of men to choose from. The chances of me being “the one” would be infinitely smaller.

The same applies to your business.

There are two types of markets you can serve:

  1. “CompSci  markets”

  2. Or “Psych markets”

In the former … you’re just one of MANY choices.

In the latter … YOU are the one who gets to choose who you work with. YOU are the one who makes others fight for YOU.

It’s one of the reasons I “quit” Twitter.

Twitter is a “ComSci Market” for writers. The ratio of writers to potential clients is comically out of balance. Meaning? Your clients choose YOU instead of the other way around.

And trust me … they’ve got plenty to choose from.

Too many writers are fighting an uphill battle by staying in a market that has very little potential.

What I want you to take away today is this:

Read your market.

Is it a saturated “CompSci Market” … or is it a fruitful “Psych Market”?

Don’t make it harder for yourself than it needs to be.

That’s it from me today! Reply with your thoughts.

Tim <3

PS. Just to make this clear: I’m not saying you should “quit” Twitter as well. It’s still a great place to build. I just think it’s slightly oversaturated.
