$10,000 blackmail

Imagine receiving a letter in the mail.

You open it.

But this isn’t a normal letter…

Horrified, you read a message that says:

“Send $10,000 to the below address until the 5th of next month or I will make your life a living hell.”

What would you do?

You’d probably feel slightly… unsettled, fearful, confused.

The thing is…

This is how many of us feel EVERY SINGLE DAY.

But instead of receiving random letters…

We do this to ourselves!

For many months, I “internally blackmailed” myself.

It’s a subconscious belief many of us have:

“Until I get to $XYZk per month… my passions are indulgent, my joy is premature, and working on anything else is betrayal.”

It’s a set of beliefs we’ve fetched from “get-rich-quick gurus” proselytizing that we MUST hit some magic income number (usually 10k/mo) as quickly as possible… otherwise, the world will end.

Intellectually, we all know this is stupid.

But imagine being bombarded with $10k per month success stories … or some conspiracy theory about how Blackrock plans another COVID lockdown unless you’re in Dubai … every single day.

No matter how stupid you think these stories are… they’ll DO something to you. They’ll evoke an emotional reaction.

And that reaction?

It’ll lead you to adopt unhealthy beliefs.

The most common being: “My life hasn’t started until I’ve hit $10k per month.” (similar to that letter, remember?)

What we don’t realize? This is literally spiritual self-denial.

The truth is, there will NEVER be a point where you can lean back and say “I’ve made it. NOW, I can finally enjoy myself.”

That moment doesn’t exist.

The only thing that actually exists?

It’s now.

Suuuuuuper cliche, I know.

But listen: you need to hear this.

If you’re building your business for the sole purpose of attaining financial freedom or status…

You’re on a dangerous path.

You don’t need to trust me. But I’ve been there. I’ve built a business that was only designed to make me money.

And guess where it led me?

Misery

Here’s the mindset shift that helped me build a business that doesn’t only make money… but gives me genuine joy, peace, and fulfillment:

I don’t chase money.

But I don’t chase fun, fulfillment, or any other of that wishy-washy stuff either.

I chase ENERGY.

Energy means:

“What lights me up right now, even if it doesn’t make sense?”

If something GIVES me energy… it’ll do it until cannot sit upright anymore. If something DETRACTS energy from my life… I’ll immediately cut it out. Ruthlessly.

It’s beautiful because I have only ONE metric by which I measure my success.

Just one.

I barely look at anything else. No confusion or second-guessing.

And trust me: If your energy is right… the money will follow.

So ask yourself:

  • Where do I lose track of time?

  • What would I do if no one was watching?

  • What’s pulling me, not what’s pushing me?

And then build your business around that.
